Read about our lawsuit against Birds Eye Foods.
When residents of Fennville, MI first expressed concern about wastewater from the local Birds Eye processing facility being sprayed on fields and other areas, they were unprepared for what they discovered: that the water spray contained elevated levels of arsenic, iron and manganese that contaminated their well water.
The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is investigating the Birds Eye wastewater, which contains water and "dregs" from the Birds Eye fruit and vegetable processing facility in the area.
The DEQ investigation has revealed that the wastewater set off a chemical reaction in the wells, causing oxygen levels to diminish and the arsenic, iron and manganese levels to increase. The DEQ also stated that while the chemical reaction is a natural process, it is caused by the the dreg-filled wastewater leaching into the water in the wells.
