BACKGROUND:
Weitz & Luxenberg P.C. (weitzlux.com) is currently investigating water contamination issues in Fennville, Michigan. The Birds Eye Foods plant in the area has polluted the groundwater by taking the dreg materials from its fruit-processing operations and spraying that waste onto adjacent fields. Those dregs caused a chemical reaction, which in turn, caused the area groundwater to be contaminated with arsenic, iron and manganese.

“The water contamination in Fennville has caused significant hardship to those living in the area,” said Robin Greenwald, head of the Environmental Torts unit at Weitz & Luxenberg. “In addition to threatening the health of Fennville families, the contamination has devalued property so that people aren’t able to enjoy or to sell their homes.”

The firm’s environmental attorneys will be available to answer questions and provide updates about the contamination. They will also let the community know that there is legal recourse.

“I have visited and spoken with Fennville residents about what they must contend with every day due to the tainted water,” said consumer advocate Erin Brockovich, who has joined forces with Weitz & Luxenberg to help the community. “While Birds Eye has provided bottled water to some residents, it’s a short-term Band-Aid solution to a long-standing environmental problem,” she added.
