Weitz & Luxenberg, P.C. has announced that Robin Greenwald, the head of Weitz & Luxenberg’s environmental and toxic tort litigation unit, has been selected to serve on the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee in the BP oil spill litigation action. The appointment was announced in an October 8, 2010 Pretrial Order issued by the Court.
“Robin’s extensive background and significant experience in the environmental arena makes her an outstanding addition to the Steering Committee,” said Weitz & Luxenberg senior partner and co-founder Perry Weitz. “Her years of environmental enforcement litigation and serving in administrative capacities in complex environmental litigation matters will assist the Committee to streamline complicated issues and help to ensure that those who have been injured—either physically or financially—will receive a fair and equitable resolution to their lawsuits.”
Ms. Greenwald has more than 25 years of experience representing the rights of those whose health and property values have been impacted because of water, land and air pollution. Her considerable understanding of complicated national environmental litigation matters led to her appointment to serve as lead attorney and plaintiffs’ liaison counsel for the Methyl Tertiary-Butyl Ether (MBTE) multidistrict litigation.
About the BP Oil Spill Lawsuit The lawsuit, In Re: Oil Spill by the Oil Rig Deepwater Horizon in the Gulf of Mexico (MDL No. 2179), was filed on behalf of those injured or killed in the April 20, 2010 explosion and fire aboard the doomed oil rig, as well as the tens of thousands of companies and individuals who have suffered catastrophic financial repercussions because of oil spill-related tourism losses.
The Steering Committee was appointed by the Honorable Carl J. Barbier. In August 2010, the courts approved the consolidation of 77 separate oil spill lawsuits to be heard before Judge Barbier in the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Louisiana.
