Does Fixodent contain zinc? Information from our lawyers.
Our attorneys are currently speaking with people who believe Fixodent led to their zinc poisoning.
According to the Fixodent website, "a small amount of zinc is used in Fixodent denture adhesives to provide denture hold. This helps the denture stay in place securely so you can eat, chew, and talk more confidently."
Unfortunately, this amount of zinc can be dangerous to denture cream wearers who use excessive amounts due to ill-fitting dentures.
Glaxo Smith Kline, the maker of PoliGrip and Super PoliGrip, and Proctor & Gamble, the makers of Fixodent, are being sued because their products contain zinc, a potentially harmful element when taken in high doses. Many people have come forward to say denture cream caused zinc poisoning.
Doctors say too much zinc drives down copper levels in the body, affects the spinal cord and makes it hard for people to walk.
In a 2008 study published by the Journal of Neurology, the authors said long-term denture cream overuse caused zinc poisoning in four patients, which resulted in neurological problems for all of them.
