In recent Florida news about the oil spill, U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson has grown deeply concerned about the Gulf beaches, with around 210,000 gallons of oil discharging daily from the Deepwater Horizon rig off Louisiana reach shore.
Nelson reportedly told Florida community leaders about the oil spill, “We are facing a very serious situation. The winds over the next three days are moving the oil slick to the east and it is estimated it could be close to Florida by Monday.”
The Democrat senator said, “The sad part about that is it takes a long time. Estimates are two to three months. If that were to occur, needless to say this would be a major environmental and economic disaster.”
Florida Department of Environmental Protection Secretary Mike Sole, who appeared with Nelson, said his major concern is the potential longevity of this spill, according to the Pensacola News Journal.
