What You Need to Know about the Link Between Gleevec and Heart Failure
Novartis adds congestive heart failure to Gleevec Precautions

Novartis Oncology has announced that it is mailing information to U.S. doctors, informing them of a
possible link between Gleevec (imitinib mesylate) and congestive heart
failure.
Gleevec, an oral tyrosine kinase inhibitor approved by the
Food and Drug Administration in 2001, is prescribed for gastrointestinal stromal
tumors (GIST) and chronic myeloid leukemia.
Nature Medicine
published the results of animal studies that suggested that a side effect of
Gleevec may be cardiac dysfunction.
