Defibrillator: Ventricular Fibrillation

BREAKING NEWS: 10.15.07--Medtronic, Inc., the world's largest maker of electronic heart devices, announced they are suspending sales of Sprint Fidelis leads. According to the FDA, these wires, used to connect defibrillators to the heart, may break or erode and may increase chance of injury. Learn more about the Medtronic Sprint Fidelis Recall.

Ventricular fibrillation (V-fib) is a deadly cardiac condition. It is caused by the lack of coordination in the large chambers of your heart. The “ventricular muscle” twitches randomly as a result the heart can not pump blood properly into your arteries. An internal defibrillator is supposed to protect you. If your life or the life of a loved one was put at risk by a malfunctioning defibrillator, fill out this short case evaluation for free legal advice.

Ventricular fibrillation is a medical emergency: if the arrhythmia continues for more than a few seconds, blood circulation will cease, as evidenced by lack of pulse and blood pressure and death will ensue. Ventricular fibrillation, along with an arrhythmia called pulseless ventricular tachycardia underlie most cases of cardiac arrest and sudden cardiac death.

This condition can be reversed by an electric discharge of a defibrillator. Antiarrhythmic agents like amiodarone or lidocaine can help but unlike atrial fibrillation this condition is rarely reversed spontaneously in large adult mammals. Therefore, it is important to know that you or your loved one have a defibrillator you can depend on.

If your or a loved has had an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator such as the recalled Guidant:

1. CONTAK RENEWAL 2, Model H155

2. CONTAK RENEWAL, Model H135, or

3. PRIZM 2 DR, Model 1861

An experienced attorney can help protect you. Defibrillators are intended to save a life, not put life at a greater risk. Fill out the simple form below to contact an experienced defibrillator lawyer before your time limit to file suit runs out.

Weitz & Luxenberg is no longer accepting Guidant Defibrillator cases.
