Italy, Denmark, France Pull Heparin Batches Over Safety Worries
Bloomberg News reported on March 25, 2008 that France, Italy and Denmark have just halted batches of the blood thinner heparin over worries regarding the contamination with Chinese-made ingredients.
The report stated that earlier this month, Germany and Switzerland recalled
some heparin from their markets.
Heparin is used to to prevent blood
clots during dialysis and heart surgery.
However, the Food and Drug Administration linked the medicine to allergic
reactions and deaths in the U.S.
Baxter International Inc. withdrew
heparin products in January after reports of life-threatening side effects.
