The Food and Drug Administration has raised the number of suspicious deaths in the United States linked to heparin from 19 to 62, according to a report in the April 14, 2008 edition of the New York Times.
The FDA defined suspicious deaths as those involving one or more allergic reactions or a drop in blood pressure, according to the article.
Hundreds of adverse reactions have been reported, and the FDA has identified a contaminant, oversulfated chondroitin sulfate, that was found in Heparin.
