Pollution at a site formerly owned by Hercules Research Center
Numerous reports provide evidence of airborne environmental pollution emanating from soil on the site formerly owned by Hercules Research Center in Wilmington, Delaware.
Residents worry that a building project, which is taking place on the highly contaminated soil, is elevating the hazard risk for surrounding neighborhoods, as these areas are in the path of winds carrying many hazardous contaminants through the air.
Our attorneys are reviewing the levels of this contamination and how it may affect nearby communities. To learn more, please complete the form at the bottom of this page.
Background
The Hercules Research Center is located about five miles west of Wilmington, Delaware.
The facility occupies approximately 45 acres, the majority of which has laboratory buildings used for development and research chemistry studies for Hercules' worldwide chemical operations.
The facility is surrounded to the north, west and south by a Country Club. To the east is the Red Clay Creek, cited for contamination, and a small railroad operated by the Wilmington and Western Railroad.
The Hercules Research Center has sixteen Solid Waste Management Units (SWMUs), several of which have been found contaminated with VOCs (including chlorobenzene), PCBs, pesticides, and metals.
