Hope Lodge: Where Hope Lives for Cancer Patients in Minnesota
In June 2007, the Rochester, Minnesota, Hope Lodge held a ribbon cutting opening their newly expanded facility.
The facility is named for Sandra J. Schulze, the late wife of Best Buy founder Richard M. Schulze, who died from mesothelioma. Mr. Schultze and his current wife, who lost her first husband to mesothelioma as well, were present at the ceremony opening the expanded center.
The facility, offering free, temporary housing facilities for cancer patients and families traveling to the Mayo Clinic and other cancer treatment facilities in the Rochester region, is one of 22 Hope Lodge facilities throughout the nation.
Mr. Schulze and the Schulze Family Foundation provided a $2.5 million grant to help fund the expanded facility. The Foundation additionally provided a $49 Million grant to the Mayo Clinic to form the Schulze Foundation for Novel Therapeutics.
