Liver Damage and Other Dangerous Side-Effects of Hydroxycut

On May 1st, 2009, the FDA released a press release with the headline: FDA Warns Consumers to Stop Using Hydroxycut Products: Dietary Supplements Linked to One Death; Pose Risk of Liver Injury. The press release entails that there have been 23 reports so far of serious injuries caused by Hydroxycut, a product used for losing weight and building muscle mass. The side-effects include:

  • Liver Injury
  • Seizures
  • Cardiovascular disorders
  • Rhabdomyolysis
  • Jaundice
  • Kidney failure

"The FDA urges consumers to discontinue use of Hydroxycut products in order to avoid any undue risk. Adverse events are rare, but exist. Consumers should consult a physician or other health care professional if they are experiencing symptoms possibly associated with these products," says Linda Katz, M.D., the FDA’s Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition’s interim chief medical officer.

As part of weitzlux.com’s ongoing commitment to provide useful information about the dangerous of Hydroxycut, we have gathered together these current resources and statistics. Please, check back periodically for updates.

The Severity of the Side-Effects

Any one of the side-effects of Hydroxycut listed above are serious enough to result in hospitalization, forced resignation due to inability to work, massive change in life-style, and life-long medical care – all of which result in massive monetary loss or decrease in quality of life.
