Former Quarterback Charged with Felony for Improper Asbestos Handling
April 23, 2011 - Laura Ortiz
Buffalo, NY – Environmental Protection Agency investigators raided the property of S. D. Specialty Services, an asbestos removal company. The owner and operator of the company is Sean P. Doctor, a firefighter and former Buffalo Bills quarterback. The raid was court-ordered and the investigators found significant amounts of asbestos that was not properly contained, disposed of, or labeled. The poorly contained asbestos could flake off into the wind and poison the surrounding residents.
Even in small amounts, asbestos can be highly toxic. It is known to cause fatal diseases such as lung cancer and mesothelioma.
Prosecutor Aaron J. Mango revealed during Sean’s court appearance that, in addition to violating the safety of his neighbors, his employees had not been using required protection equipment.
Sean is a wonderful guy who does a good job on asbestos removal…The rules and regulations on handling asbestos are absolutely mind-boggling. I do feel that he will be cleared of these charges,” said Doctor’s attorney, Michael T. Kelly.
