Medical Device Failure: Kugel Mesh Patch Causes Internal Injury
The Kugel Mesh Patch is a hernia repair device that has failed and caused problems for many patients.
The plastic "memory recoil ring" that opens the patch has been found to break; this has prompted a nationwide recall of the product.
In some instances, the breakage has cut through a patient's internal organs and tissue, leading to bowel rupture and other serious injuries.
For this reason, the Food and Drug Administration notified surgeons and hospitals to halt using this recalled product.
