Our Law Firm's Philosophy:
Ensuring every client has the resources to be heard

“When you do what I do for as long as I’ve done it, you see the system really working. You’re able to take an individual who couldn’t afford to litigate against the corporate behemoths, and level the playing field for that person. It’s very rewarding to be able to represent these people, many who do not have the resources to be heard.”
--Perry Weitz, founder, Weitz & Luxenberg, P.C., on his law firm's philosophy

Founded by Perry Weitz and Arthur Luxenberg in 1986, the Weitz & Luxenberg law firm was based on a philosophy that every client's case is the most important case, and that each client is entitled our very best work.

Before entrusting us with their legal issue, many of our clients first asked themselves the classic question, "Why Weitz & Luxenberg?" The answer is simple: Even after 21 years of practice involving dangerous drugs, medical malpractice, general negligence, and toxic substances, among others, our firm continues to set an unmatched standard of excellence for mass tort litigation, achieving more verdicts than most firms in America. We are also the largest personal injury and mass tort plaintiffs’ firm in New York.

Our Drug and Medical Device Litigation unit has won numerous cases involving dangerous pharmaceuticals, including Vioxx, achieving a $13.5 million verdict against Merck & Co. The firm’s other active pharmaceutical litigations include Accutane, shoulder pain pumps, Seroquel, Januvia, Yaz birth control, Advanced Bionics cochlear implants, Hydroxycut, and transvaginal mesh (TVT mesh).

Such work builds on the firm's very first area of litigation, asbestos, where it established itself with landmark cases dating back to 1991. It was then that we won a historic consolidated trial involving men who had worked at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in the 1940s and 1950s. Weitz & Luxenberg represented 36 clients in that case, securing verdicts of $75 million.

Recent victories include a jury verdict in May 2007 of $37 million for two smokers with lung cancer who had been exposed to asbestos.

Along the path to such successes, the 60 lawyers at Weitz & Luxenberg continually work with the needs of society in mind, recently expanding work on behalf of communities whose underground water supplies are contaminated by chemical plants, oil companies, and factories around their houses.

In our quest to seek justice for communities that have been harmed by the negligence of corporate polluters, the Environmental Toxic Torts Unit of Weitz & Luxenberg, P.C. has filed a lawsuit against Cargill, Incorporated. That company's former seed treating facility in Southwest Grand Island, Nebraska is responsible for having contaminated the drinking water supply wells in the Castle Estates, Kentish Hills, and Marylane communities.

If you have been harmed due to someone else's negligence, we may be able to help. If you'd like to contact us about a legal matter, please complete the form below and we will be in touch shortly.
