Weitz and Luxenberg Provides Legal Assistance for Accutane Victims and Their Families

Created by drug manufacturer Hoffman-LaRoche, Accutane is a synthetic form of Vitamin A that is made to alleviate severe acne symptoms. Unfortunately, many people who trusted Accutane to improve their complexion have experienced serious side effects such as inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn’s disease, and ulcerative colitis, among other ailments. If you have taken Accutane and are afflicted by any of these grievous illnesses, a Weitz and Luxenberg attorney can provide you with legal assistance, and may be able to help you get compensation. Currently, thousands of lawsuits are pending nationwide against Hoffman-LaRoche for the avoidable pain and suffering their defective product has caused.

Many of the medical conditions linked to Accutane use require therapy, treatments and surgery. Not only does a person suffering from the side effects of Accutane have to contend with physical pain and suffering, they also have to worry about financing their medical expenses.

Accutane Verdicts & Settlements

Recently, there have been several court rulings that have held Hoffman- LaRoche Pharmaceuticals accountable for the chronic gastrointestinal conditions that many patients have developed as a result of Accutane use. Jurors ruled that Hoffman- LaRoche failed to provide adequate warnings about the risk of developing inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis and other illnesses associated with Accutane.

In November 2009, a New Jersey court ruled that Hoffman- LaRoche Pharmaceuticals must pay $12.9 million in compensatory damages to three Florida plaintiffs who developed inflammatory bowel disease as a result of Accutane. Jurors unanimously agreed that Hoffman-La Roche "improperly warned physicians" about the gastrointestinal risks associated with Accutane.
