Video Thorascopy and Biopsies of Nodules Can Detect Lung Cancer
In this procedure to detect lung cancer, the doctor inserts a tube (endoscope) through a small incision between the ribs and partially collapses one lung. This creates a space through which a pen-sized instrument with a video device is passed between the ribs and through the chest wall. The doctor then can perform biopsies of nodules or masses while watching the procedure on a video screen. The lung expands again after the procedure.
