Who is at risk for lung cancer due to asbestos?

A large number of people are at risk for developing lung cancer from asbestos because asbestos can exist in many everyday products. Some of these products are auto brake and clutch parts, roofing shingles, ceiling and floor tiles, cement, paper products and textiles. Asbestos can also exist in insulation material used in various building structures such as schools and factories. Additionaly, people in jobs that involve handling of products containing asbestos are at risk of developing lung cancer. Some of these jobs include construction, installation of insulation, shipbuilding, automobile workers, electricians and railroad workers. Finally, people who come into contact with someone who has been exposed to asbestos are at risk for developing lung cancer from secondary asbestos exposure. These people maybe the family members of a person employed in an industry where asbestos exposure is comon.
