Malpractice News: Lovastatin Cholesterol Drug Can Help Melanoma Treatment

Malpractice News: In a report filed in August 2008, doctors have discovered that Lovastatin, a drug typically prescribed to treat cholesterol problems, is now being used as part of a cancer treatment for patients with melanoma.

The drug has worked to arrest the growth, or in some cases, completely destroy, tumors in more than 80 percent of the patients in the study. When the study began in 2000, a patient with stage 4 melanoma was treated with Lovastatin, and the patient is still disease-free in 2008.
