Jury renders $2.3 million verdict against Illinois hospital
October 7, 2008 – A Tuscola man charged an Illinois hospital with medical malpractice after surgical complications following a prostate operation.
The medical malpractice lawsuit said that the painful multiple surgeries following the man’s prostatectomy were required after a nurse ignored doctor’s orders and administered an enema, damaging the patient’s internal organs.
According to the lawsuit, hospital policy dictates that a patient should never be given an enema after prostate surgery because of very high health risks.
The jury agreed and awarded the patient $2.3 million in damages.
