$825,000 malpractice verdict for botched knee-replacement surgery
October 23, 2008 -- A 53-year-old Missouri woman filed a malpractice lawsuit against her doctor accusing him of botching a knee-replacement operation in 2003 that forced her to undergo several additional surgeries, including two more knee replacements at a Minnesota clinic.
After a five-day trial in Jasper County Circuit Court in Joplin, the jury agreed with the woman’s allegations and awarded her $825,000. The verdict includes: $325,000 for past economic damages, including medical expenses; $250,000 for past non-economic damages; and $250,000 for future non-economic damages.
