MEDICAL MALPRACTICE
Oregon hospital settles six malpractice lawsuits
September 29, 2008 -- Oregon Health and Science University hospital has settled six lawsuits alleging medical malpractice, a federal judge announced three days ago.
The settlements average more than $6 million each, well above a $2 million statewide liability cap that has not yet been approved by the state legislature.
The judge hearing the case asked all parties in the suit not to discuss the settlement. But the mother of one victim, who suffered brain damage at the hospital, said her family’s settlement gives them "peace of mind."
