West Virginia hospital settles $13M in malpractice
lawsuits
Doctor's license revoked in his home state
September 22, 2008 -- A former West Virginia doctor named in more than 100 medical malpractice lawsuits during his
brief stay at a Putnam County hospital can no longer practice medicine in his
home state of Alabama.
The Alabama Medical Licensure Commission revoked the doctor's license
following complaints from several patients there, including one who spent 26
hours in a coma.
The former Putnam General Hospital hired the surgeon in 2002. His six months
there triggered dozens of lawsuits alleging he had misdiagnosed, harmed and even
killed patients. The Putnam County lawsuits have resulted in at least $13
million in settlements, so far.
