Malpractice News: Negligence Suit Filed Against California Nursing Home
Malpractice News: A nursing home in Laguna Hills, California has been sued for the second time for claims of substandard care which resulted in the death of an elderly patient.
The family of the 91-year old woman alleged their mother was sent to the nursing home for treatment after a short hospital stay. Within days of the woman’s admission, she developed pressure ulcers on both of her feet which went untreated. While the family had their mother transferred to another facility, the pressure wounds spread to muscle and bone tissue. The woman died several months after her admission to the nursing home.
The lawsuit alleged the nursing home was negligent in providing adequate medical staff for their residents. The Home has received five health and safety citations in the past ten years. Additionally, a nonprofit agency providing information on the state’s nursing homes for patients and families found the facility had one of the highest nurse turnover rates in California.
In addition to the current lawsuit, the facility was also ordered to pay $2 million to the family of a woman who died from complications of pressure ulcers she developed while a patient at the facility.
