Seattle family files malpractice charges in case of fatal surgery
August 28, 2008 – The family of a Seattle woman who died after complications from undergoing gastric bypass surgery has filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against the doctor who performed the original and the follow-up surgery that turned fatal.
According to the wrongful death and medical malpractice lawsuit filed by the family, the patient came into the hospital several times after the initial surgery complaining of pain.
The doctor who performed the initial surgery then performed a laparotomy to repair a perforated bowel, but the patient died shortly thereafter from sepsis caused by the perforated bowel, says the complaint.
