Family sues hospital over daughter’s lost tumor
October 7, 2008 -- A Chicago family says they will never know for certain if
a tumor removed from their 16-year-old daughter two years ago was cancerous,
since a local children’s hospital lost the tumor.
The family filed a medical malpractice
lawsuit this week in Cook County Circuit Court alleging that surgeons
removed a tumor and lost it before a biopsy could determine whether it was
cancerous.
The patient was told she would never know if the tumor was malignant. Due to
the medical negligence involved in this
situation, the teen will most likely face difficulties obtaining individual
insurance as she grows into adulthood because of her uncertain health
status.
