Potential malpractice issue: Study shows that minority groups experience more errors with medical testing
Malpractice and minority groups
The following information is from the medical malpractice lawyers of Weitz & Luxenberg. Newswire has reported on a study which found that errors relating to implementation of medical tests were nearly double for minority groups.
Errors were grouped in one of 10 categories: test ordering, test implementation, reporting results to the clinician, clinician responding to results, notifying the patient of results, administrative, treatments, communications, other process errors, and knowledge and skills.
Test implementation errors were at 32 percent for minority groups versus 18 percent for non-Hispanic whites. The investigators believe this may indicate difficulties with transportation to the testing site or lack of insurance to pay for the test.
