Malpractice News: Woman Dies in New York Hospital
Malpractice News: In June 2008, a 49-year-old psychiatric patient waiting for treatment at a New York hospital died after being left on an emergency room floor without receiving any medical attention for several hours.
The woman, whose plight was captured on hospital surveillance cameras, showed hospital employees, including a doctor, walking by her and not stopping to provide assistance. After the incident, the hospital staff filed medical reports which directly contradicted the events shown on the surveillance tape.
As a result of the woman’s death, the New York City Department of Investigations is examining hospital records and other information as part of their inquiry. In addition, two security guards and four other hospital staff members, including a doctor, have been fired.
