Malpractice News: Negligence at Rehabilitation Center led to Death
Malpractice News: A negligence lawsuit has been filed against a Chicago, Illinois rehabilitation center in the death of a 67 year old man who died while in the center’s care.
In September 2007, the man was admitted to the center after undergoing leg amputation surgery. According to the lawsuit, the center assessed the man as being at risk for a fall or accident, and determined that two staff members were required to use a mechanical lift when the man would need to be moved. The day after the assessment, a certified nursing assistant attempted to move the man into his wheelchair, causing the man to fall and fracture his left hip and femur.
Unfortunately, the man’s condition seriously deteriorated after undergoing surgery to repair his hip and femur, and he died in December 2007.
The Illinois Department of Public Health investigated the man’s case, and the facility was later cited for improper nursing care.
