Illinois mother agrees to malpractice settlement totaling
$15.35
million
May 20, 2008 – Medical malpractice is bad enough, but when it involves an infant it is especially alarming. Families have every right to seek a legal authority for protection and financial restitution – and that’s exactly what one Illinois mother did in this story.
Vanessa Jenkins, whose son suffered brain damage at birth six years ago, has settled a medical malpractice lawsuit with her hospital and doctor for $15.35 million, the Chicago Tribune reported today.
The boy reportedly suffered cerebral palsy and mental retardation after Jenkin’s doctor unsuccessfully used a vacuum extractor device during the birth at Valley West Community Hospital in Sandwich.
The boy was born in October, 2001, after an emergency Caesarean operation.
