MEDICAL MALPRACTICE
New Jersey Medical Board suspends doctor’s license after he removes the wrong lung . . .

July 23, 2008 – A New Jersey surgeon lost his medical license after state regulators discovered he removed the wrong lung from a patient and then attempted to conceal his error – constituting medical malpractice.

The State Board of Medical Examiners found that the doctor removed a portion of the patient's right lung, when he was supposed to remove a tumor from the left lung.

To conceal the error, the doctor told his patient that there had been a life-threatening tumor within the right lung, though no growth existed there. He also falsified the patient’s records to show that he had intended to operate on the right lung, according to board records.

The State Board of Medical Examiners determined that the doctor’s actions constituted gross negligence.
