Obstetrical malpractice case:
Woman wins millions over baby stuck in
birth canal
A jury in a malpractice trial has awarded more than $20 million to a woman whose baby was stuck in her birth canal for 13 hours, said the Associated Press on May 20, 2008.
According to the report, the jury found doctors negligent for trying to push
the woman's 9-pound baby through. The process squeezed her head. The baby was
eventually delivered by Caesarean section.
In a trial, the woman's medical malpractice lawyers
argued that the baby suffered brain injuries.
Reportedly, the now
10-year-old girl has limited use of her limbs, has vision problems and is mildly
retarded.
