In a tragic case of medical malpractice in failure to diagnose, a Tennessee woman won a medical malpractice verdict of nearly $2.8 million, said WVLT.com on May 20, 2008.
The woman now has terminal breast cancer, and has a year to three years to live, said a report in the News Sentinel.The paper reported that the woman received a mammogram in 2001 but was told the findings were normal.
Three years later, doctors found a large tumor and diagnosed her with stage four cancer.
According to the article, the woman's medical malpractice lawyer said that if she had received the proper diagnosis in 2001, she would have had at least a 90-percent cure rate.
