Doctors hope regulatory programs will help fight lower fees and hike in
malpractice coverage
The New York Sun has reported that doctors may encounter a hike in
malpractice insurance premiums and may receive lower fees from treating Medicare
patients.
According to Dr. Michael Rosenberg, the president of the Medical Society of
the State of New York, doctors in New York are urging state insurance officials
to enact regulatory programs that would offer them financial relief while they
wait for legislators to consider ways to change the state's medical malpractice
system.
Last year, Governor Spitzer organized a task force charged with making
recommendations to fix a "broken" malpractice system, but no recommendations
were put forth.
