A study has found that, compared with white patients, Asian-Pacific Islanders
having surgery were:
42 percent more likely to develop a blood infection
(sepsis)
34 percent more likely to suffer kidney failure

percent more likely to bleed internally or develop a large blood clot

percent more likely to need a ventilator to breathe
In addition, Asian-Pacific Islander patients hospitalized for surgical as well as medical care are 12 percent more likely to experience accidental punctures or cuts.
