Malpractice News: Joint Commission Directive on Disruptive Workplace
Behavior and Patient Care
Malpractice News: According to an article published on the news Web site msnbc.com In July 2008, the Joint
Commission issued a report warning healthcare professionals of the evidence
of disruptive behaviors in the hospital workplace may be tied to medical errors
that can cause harm to patients.
Beginning in January 2009, the Commission
will require hospitals to establish codes of conduct to define inappropriate
behaviors and develop policies and procedures to address them. The Commission’s
directive will offer hospitals a clear model for establishing guidelines and
consequences to decrease disruptive behaviors.
