and Blood Infections
Malpractice News: According to a report published in July 2008 by
The New York Post rating infection rates, New
York City intensive care unit patients are at less risk of developing an
blood infection than patients treated at hospitals in other areas of New
York.
According to New York health officials, rates of blood infections
linked to central line IVs are higher for patients treated in surgical ICUs in
New York than in other areas of the United States.
This information was released as part of a survey conducted in 197 New
York hospitals on the number of blood and surgical-site infections ICU patients
developed. The state plans to release a report with the rates for the hospitals
sometime in 2009.
