The parents of a toddler who died from meningitis due to a failure to diagnose, have accepted a $1.25 million malpractice settlement in Indiana in connection with their son's death, reported nwitimes.com on July 4, 2008.
The couple sued a physician after a medical malpractice panel found in 2006 that he had committed medical errors in their son's case.
The parents contend the doctor caused their son's death by incorrectly diagnosing his meningitis as a stomach problem.
The boy, only a year-and-a-half at the time of his death, died in 2002 of a form of meningitis.
All too often, such medical errors become nightmares for patients, who must suffer the consequences of a health care practitioner's mistake.
