August 28, 2009 - A Los Angeles Superior Court jury has awarded $7.3 million in a negligence lawsuit against Cedars-Sinai Medical Center over the hospital’s alleged failure to quickly diagnose and treat a baby girl with meningitis.
The jury returned the unanimous verdict today in favor of the plaintiff, now 5 years old, who suffered brain damage as a result of the treatment.
The lawsuit was filed in 2005 and alleged that doctors in the hospital's neonatal intensive care unit were negligent. The award will be placed in a trust fund for the child’s past and future medical care.
