Medical Malpractice News: There are several risk factors which increase the risk for developing sarcoidosis. They include:

Race. African Americans are at a higher risk to develop the disease than other ethic groups. While Caucasian men and women are affected equally, African American women are more than twice as likely to develop the disease as African American men. The disease is typically more severe in African Americans, and studies have concluded that African Americans with the disease are more likely to develop skin problems related to sarcoidosis.

Ethnic Background. Sarcoidosis is more common in those of Asian, German, Irish, Puerto Rican, and Scandinavian descent. Researchers have not yet concluded whether the incidence of the disease in these groups is caused by ethnicity, geography, or a combination of the two factors.

Age. Sarcoidosis usually occurs in adults between the ages of 20 and 40, but has also been diagnosed in patients over the age of 50. Sarcoidosis is rarely diagnosed in children or teenagers.
