Stunning case of medical malpractice: Doctors pronouce little girl dead but police later see her chest moving.

A medical malpractice lawsuit filed by the family of a California girl who was revived after doctors allegedly said she was dead in 2003 is scheduled to go to trial, said the Associated Press on April 21, 2008.

Five years ago, the then 20 months old fell into a swimming pool at her family's home.

According to the AP article, the lawsuit claims the girl, now 6, suffered permanent brain damage after doctors at a California hospital wrongly pronounced her dead and disconnected her breathing tube.

More than an hour later, a police detective conducting a routine investigation noticed her chest was moving and summoned doctors, who were able to revive her.

The family will now need enough money to provide the child with around-the-clock care.

Sadly, the lawyers in the Medical Malpractice Unit of our firm are all-too familiar with the many types of medical negligence.
