Medical Center faces legal action over liposuction
ordeal
August 4, 2008 – A 39-year-old businessman and veteran from Quincy, Massachusetts, filed medical malpractice charges against a renowned medical center for not owning up to its errors in the hours and days after his traumatic liposuction procedure last June.
According to the malpractice lawsuit, Beth Israel faces legal action after a simple cosmetic procedure evolved into days of pain and suffering for the patient.
The patient, described in news reports as a somewhat portly man, decided on the common liposuction procedure, which required general anesthesia and was expected to take 60 to 90 minutes – but lasted nearly seven hours.
