California jury awards $2.75M to widow of motorcycle accident victim
August 5, 2008 – A Stanislaus County (Calif.) Superior Court jury hearing a medical malpractice case last week awarded the widow of a San Joaquin Delta College maintenance supervisor $2.75 million.
The jury agreed with her allegations that a doctor’s negligence hastened her husband’s death five days after a motorcycle accident.
The accident occurred in January 2006, after a dog caused her 49-year-old husband to crash his motorcycle. He sustained broken ribs along with cuts and scrapes, said the woman’s lawyer.
The widow’s malpractice lawsuit blamed the man’s doctor for transferring him prematurely out of the intensive care unit and into another area of a Modesto hospital. Jurors sided with the widow, finding the doctor at fault for the death, The Record reported today.
