Osteopathic doctor faces license suspension over prescription drug issues
August 4, 2008 – The Nevada Board of Osteopathic Medicine is seeking to suspend the medical license of a local doctor over allegations of prescription drug abuse and potential medical malpractice.
The actions of this doctor, “represent a real and significant threat to the public health," according to a complaint filed by the board three days ago, as reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
In the medical board’s complaint, the doctor, a former patient at the Betty Ford Clinic in California, is accused of going to a Fremont Medical Center location last year and ordering 2,000 hydrocodone pills, a pain killer, requesting the order be kept confidential.
The doctor, who has never had any disciplinary or malpractice issues before, treated patients within 24 hours of using hydrocodone, the board charges in its complaint.
