Nursing Home Rating System on Medicare Web Site
In January 2009, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services released a report on nursing homes in the U.S. Nearly 16,000 nursing homes are ranked in Medicare’s 1-5 star rating system on criteria such as staffing, state inspection results, quality control and quality assurance issues.
The information in the ranking systems is available for consumers on the Centers’ Web site, www.cms.hhs.gov/.
Families and caregivers can use the site’s interactive system to search for information about nursing homes. The ranking system will be updated on a monthly basis.
