MORAb-009 Phase II Study for Treatment of Mesothelioma
In March 2009, the biopharmaceutical company Morphotek announced they were beginning a Phase II study of an experimental antibody treatment known as MORAb-009. The study will evaluate MORAb-009 as a first-line treatment for patients that have been diagnosed with mesothelioma, a serious form of lung cancer caused by exposure to asbestos.
In 2006, MORAb-009 received investigational new drug (IND) application status from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Morphotek is currently seeking up to 86 participants to participate at three northeastern hospitals: Christiana Care Health System in Newark, Delaware; NIH/National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Maryland; and NYU Medical Center in New York City.
Exposure to asbestos is known to cause serious diseases such as mesothelioma, asbestos-related lung cancer and asbestosis.
