MESOTHELIOMA VERDICT
Florida jury awards couple $3.6 million in asbestos exposure case . . .
November 5, 2008 – A Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, jury has awarded a woman diagnosed with mesothelioma, and her husband, $3.6 million in a secondhand asbestos-exposure verdict.
The couple’s lawsuit, filed in Broward County, Florida, said the woman’s asbestos mesothelioma condition was a result of her secondhand exposure to asbestos-containing automobile brakes manufactured by Ford Motor Co. and Pneumo Abex. Abex reportedly made no offer to settle the case.
“Remarkably Ford and Abex continued to argue that although asbestos is clearly deadly, they were not responsible,” her lawyer told reporters.
Mesothelioma
The plaintiff, 57, was diagnosed with mesothelioma, the deadliest of asbestos-related diseases, in May of 2007 and has been a resident of Broward County since 1998.
Her exposure to asbestos-containing car brakes occurred in the 1970s and 1980s when she worked at two Ford dealerships in Wisconsin for only a couple of years.
Time to seek justice!
Government sources estimate that in the next decade more than 35,000 people nationwide will be diagnosed with the deadliest form of asbestos-related cancer, mesothelioma. This disease is most often the result of industrial workplace exposure to asbestos – and usually contracted through employers’ blatant disregard for the health and safety of its workers.
