In recent news about the dangers of exposure to asbestos, the widow of a brewery worker is appealing for any of his former colleagues to get in touch to find out why he died of malignant mesothelioma.
The brewery worker, who died aged 67 from the mesothelioma cancer, which is linked to asbestos, started work at the brewery in the 1950s when he was 15.
Asbestos was long used as an additive material for the filtration of many kinds of alcoholic beverages.
His wife recalled: “When he was diagnosed with mesothelioma in January 2008 we were both absolutely devastated. From then on his condition began to deteriorate quickly. He lost his appetite and had difficulty eating.”
Now his wife is searching for information about how it happened and to raise awareness of asbestos exposure in the workplace.
Mesothelioma is an asbestos-related disease, for which there sadly is no cure.
The brewery worker left a wife, two sons, a daughter and five grandchildren.
Many brewery workers have come forward to say their work environment led to a diagnosis of mesothelioma, asbestosis or lung cancer from asbestos.
