Treatment for mesothelioma can include chemotherapy administered with certain FDA-approved drugs

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) endorses the chemotherapy drug Pemetrexed (marketed under the brand name Alimta) for the treatment of malignant pleural mesothelioma.

Pemetrexed, in combination with the chemotherapy agent Cisplatin, is used in the treatment of malignant pleural mesothelioma when the patient is not a good candidate for surgery.

According to the drug maker's website, Altima, when given with cisplatin, is the first and only chemotherapy drug to be approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma when surgery is not an option.
