Deckhands: Our asbestos lawyers can help you file a mesothelioma claim for financial compensation.
Recently, one of the many hardworking deckhands in the Merchant Marines was diagnosed with mesothelioma. He came to us to discuss his exposure to asbestos.
He said that he and other deckhands handled asbestos-coated wall panels extensively, especially during renovations on the vessel he sailed on while in the Marines.
This deckhand recalls that the doors to the crew cabins were filled with asbestos, as were the wall panels.
Over the years, the deckhand said, the locks were changed and nail and screw holes put into the walls, releasing the asbestos fibers, which he now knows can cause mesothelioma.
The deckhand said he thinks there are many people who worked on the vessel over the years who have died from mesothelioma and more who are now sick because of asbestos without even knowing it.
He said he is also concerned about the families of some of the workers and the possibility of second-hand exposure to asbestos.
Asbestos fibers can be transferred from place to place on clothing and other materials.
Many deckhands have come forward to say their work environment led to a diagnosis of mesothelioma, asbestosis or lung cancer from asbestos.
If this has been your experience, we may be able to help.
